Biography

Janice Arellano is counsel with Cleary Giacobbe Alfieri Jacobs in litigation and school law practice groups. She concentrates her practice in the areas of labor and employment counseling and litigation, civil litigation, and representing public school districts and charter schools throughout New Jersey on a wide range of matters. She also serves as a court-appointed attorney for alleged incapacitated individuals in guardianship and estate administration matters in Monmouth, Somerset, and Hunterdon counties. Her experience includes all aspects of litigation, including development of case strategy, drafting discovery, dispositive, and pretrial motions, and taking and defending depositions. Janice also advises public and private entities on compliance and regulatory matters, including workplace investigations.

In addition to her practice, she currently serves as a member of the New Jersey Advisory Council to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, a NJ Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and Co-Chair of the APALA-NJ Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee. Janice served as Co-Chair of the Minority Trial Lawyer Committee of the American Bar Association in 2017 and has published various articles on employment law, diversity & inclusion, and work/life balance. Prior to joining Cleary Giacobbe Alfieri Jacobs, Janice worked at Methfessel & Werbel in the Employment Practices Group and Norris McLaughlin as a Litigation Associate. She served as a Public Policy Fellow in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in Washington, D.C. She was also a 5th Grade Lead Teacher and Corps Member Coach at Mastery Charter Schools in Philadelphia, PA. She was law clerk to the Honorable Kevin M. Shanahan in Somerset County.

Janice has been selected for inclusion in the New Jersey Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” list since 2021 to the present. In 2016 she was selected to the Latina Leadership Academy, Hispanic National Bar Association. Janice is proficient in Spanish.
